Okay, so I know I've already done two posts in the span of less than twelve hours, but since this is forefront on my mind, I thought I'd share it.
The Runaways. The movie. Coming out in eleven days. Basically, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning look sexy as SHIT in all the trailers I've seen. 70's girl rock band, all the way. I cannot freaking WAIT for this to come out--and I only heard about it, say, a week or so ago. If anyone's reading this, are you excited for this as well? I'm a little more out of my mind about this than maybe I should be (and more than I anticipated, that's for sure), but what the hell. I loveloveLOVE movies, and this looks like a killer.
(I love this picture.)Here's a link to my favorite trailer so far.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHpEJ749TRMAh, mullets and ABBA pantsuits and platform shoes. Life was good.~Josie
(Before I actually begin this posting business, I just want to say a few words about how this is going down for each feature: I'll write a brief biography of the featured gal including birth/death years, occupation, major achievements, and things like spouses and other interesting facts. Then I'll move on to my personal favorite (or unfavorite) things about said person, and some of the reasons I think she was/is an asset to society (or why not--some of these gals may be infamous rather than just famous). Finally, I'll give the girl a rating out of ten for overall character, deeds, looks, and all that. And please remember--this is JUST MY OPINION, and I'm not forcing anyone to like or dislike said female based on my judgements. In fact, I'd enjoy some debate if anyone is so inclined. Okay? Okay. Now the post FOR REAL.)
Who to begin with on this "girl blog?" As I was daydreaming today, my mind fell upon a certain young star who is--well, more like "used to be"--in my top ten up-and-coming actresses: Kristen Stewart. Who else to begin a blog with: she's on everyone's radar nowadays, has substantial acting experience, and gets a lot of people talking. So, Miss Stewart, here I go.
Kristen Stewart: born April 9th, 1990, and got her start at age eleven in The Safety of Objects (2001). She has since done many films spanning many genres from horror to comedy, but most recently Kristen is known for starring as Bella Swan in the Twilight movies.List of completed films:
The Safety of Objects
Panic Room
Cold Creek Manor
Speak
Catch That Kid
UndertowFierce People
Zathura (A Space Adventure)
The Cake EatersInto the Wild
Cutlass
The Yellow Handkerchief
What Just Happened

New Moon
Welcome to the RileysThe Runaways
(Okay, honestly, how sexy is THAT?! Yowza!)Now for my opinions.
Kristen Stewart. I kinda got crush on her after seeing Panic Room (she's so damn cute, and plays such a sassy character) and then Speak (it helped that it was, at the time, my favorite book), and I still really enjoy her movies, but I haven't liked seeing her go so far down the tubes. She smokes, does pot, dyes her hair a few too many times for my taste, often sports grungy or "hard rock" style clothes, and in general emits this all-around "I am so badass I don't give a shit" attitude. I respect that to a degree--why should we give a damn what you smoke or drink or wear? We love your acting!--but I wish she'd pull back just a little bit. I gotta say, she's made some GREAT films--among my favorites are Panic Room, Speak (why did it have to be a low-budget film?! WHY?!), Fierce People, In the Land of Women (albeit a tad awkward), The Messengers (I don't care how bad its reviews were), and (hopefully) soon to be The Runaways. (Who DOESN'T want to see a flick with a much more mature Dakota Fanning and a dark-and-sexy Kristen Stewart playing the two key members of an all-girl band?! PLUS they share an apparently passionate kiss. For the win.)
Kristen seems a little overwhelmed by showbiz, I think, and that comes through in her outward appearance. Also, I hope someone else thinks she should try out a role on the complete opposite side of anything she's ever done, like some happy-go-lucky bimbo who stars as a sidekick or a secondary character. That'd be the real test for KS; if she can play a character so far from angst she lightens her look, I'd consider Kristen a better-rounded actress. Hm. We shall see.So all in all:
KS wins 7/10. She's gorgeous, she's talented, but her actions and attitude worry so many of us.
P.S. I figured I should put a pinch of Twilight-related stuff in here, since we are talking about the screen incarnation of Bella Swan. I am neither for nor against Twilight. The books are good--they're funny, attention-grabbing, and all-around enjoyable, but the movies don't quite do them justice. I think they've been okay so far, and I would certainly watch both New Moon and Twilight; it's when the 12-year-old girls start to swoon ove Edward/Robert Pattinson that I get turned completely off. Please, stop the craze and let the series be good again!

Bonjour, mes cheries! Je m'appelle Josie, et j'adore des femmes.
In other words, my name is Josie here in the blogosphere, and I love women. Make of that what you will, but my life is in many ways centered around them and everything related to them. We are pretty fantastic, if I do say so myself!
To start, I am not new to the world of blogging (especially via Blogger), but I am new to the type of blog I plan to make here, which, to put it simply, will be an ongoing tribute to the women (past and present) of our world. I'll cover movie stars, singers, models, writers, painting subjects, and possibly even politicians in future posts--and I am certainly open to requests, if anyone reading so desires to see their favorite lady of the stage or pen featured. This is not aimed at anyone in particular; I'm writing to everyone from women interested in feminism, to lesbians, to men interested in a wider variety of gals than today's Hollywood serves us, to anyone in love with beauty in every shape and size! So I hope that in this small expression of one of my greatest loves (I wouldn't trade my femininity for the world!), others can and will find pleasure, information, and entertainment. Women will rule.
All my love,
Josie
